What is Building Trades, "The Student-built House"?

Building Trades is a class for any high school senior. It is a year-long course that meets for two periods, either in the morning or the afternoon, each day. The class meets away from the school campus at a construction site. During the school year students in the class build a house!

There are no pre-requisites for the class, any interested student is welcome to sign-up. However there is an application process and you must be accepted into the class. Do you like the idea of taking a class in which you can help build something as real as a house? If you think this is something for you, then read on for more information.

What do you do in the class?

The Building Trades class isn't for students who just want to sit in class and listen to the teacher talk. This class is for students who want to do things. During the course of one school year the class will build a single-family house!

You will do the framing, roofing, install doors & windows, experience drywall, install finish trim, plus much more  and have a great time doing it. All of this plus 10 credit hours and a P.E. wavier each term.

The class is also good for anyone who has ever wondered how a house is built. Or, for someone who likes the idea of learning problem solving, teamwork, and the use of tools while working on a real life project.

Build a house, build your own future!
