Groups work to improve geography education.

The Chicago Tribune (11/25, Swanson) reported that "several groups of educators and at least one entrepreneur" are attempting to boost U.S. students' knowledge of geography. Among the efforts: "The National Geographic Society is in the midst of a five-year multimedia campaign called My Wonderful World, aimed at improving the geographic knowledge of students age 8 to 17;" a group of educators is lobbying Congress seeking funding for geography education; "an alliance of [Illinois] geography instructors held a one-week training session in the summer for elementary teachers to show them how geography lessons can be incorporated in their classrooms;" and an entrepreneur has founded a company that "produces puzzles and other products to make geography accessible to the public."
